There is just something about large bodies of placid water that’s very calming. I want to call it therapeutic, but i’m no pro. All I know, is that so far I got the same feeling with each new one I have visited. Here are some photos of just a few of some of the world’s Great Lakes.
Lake Como is a lake of glacial origin located in Lombardy, Italy. It’s area measures in at about 146 square kilometers, making it the third largest lake in Italy. At approximately 400 meters deep, it is known to be one of the deepest lakes in Europe, also the bottom of the lake measures in at about 200 meters below sea-level. Moraine Lake is a glacially fed lake in Banff National Park, 14 Kilometers outside the Village of Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada. It’s located in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, sitting at an elevation of approximately 6,183 feet. Lake Ashi, which is also know as Hakone Lake or Ashinoko Lake, is a scenic lake in the Hakone area of Kanagawa Perfecture in Honshu, Japan. It’s a crater lake and is located along the southwest wall of Mt. Hakone. This lake is well known for its great views of Mt. Lake Toba doubles as a lake and a super-volcano. It is 100 kilometers long, 30 kilometers wide and about 500 kilometers deep. This lake is located in the northern part of the Indonesian island of Sumatra and has a surface elevation of about 900 meters.
